Mom's Perspective

It's true! He is eating! Not only Top Ramen, but yogurt, applesauce, ravioli, cereal and fettuccine alfredo. We've turned up the rate on his feeding tube so he can be off it during the night. He finished the iv fluids so he is totally on his own for hydration and is steadily increasing his intake daily - water, Crystal Light, Kool-Aid, yogurt smoothies and Coke, of course! He still is sensitive to cold so we can't take advantage of Jamba Juice yet. Emphasis on YET.

He is regaining his strength - we took a walk around the block Friday night - that's huge! Savanna was here Saturday and the gang stopped by for awhile. Nick's friend, Rob, has a new motorcycle and he stopped by to show Nick. After they came back in, Nick announced to his other friends he got to try out Rob's bike. After several blinks of my eyes and picking my jaw back up off the floor, I said, "I'm sorry, WHAT?" I really thought he was kidding until later that night I asked Nick, "Did you really?". He said, "Yeah, but I never got out of third gear, Mom." Oh. Well, that's different.

He is sleeping soundly at night, his speech is clear and his humor is back.

We are off to a fabulous week!

Hi Nick,
Sorry it has been so long since I have visted your site, I was up in Colo for a week to help get some of mom's things in order. Regardless of where I am, I pray for you and your family each and every day, and 'sweet Chris' (my mom's nickname for your auntie) keeps the family posted on your progress. Glad to hear the mucus/saliva situation is getting better; and great news about the reduction in the size of tumor.
Keep up the great work, you're much stronger that you realize!
Lots of love from Texas! Ann (Dunlap)Leoni

Hi Nick,
Our family is in the Lakeview Ward and we wanted you to know that we are thinking about you and praying for you. Keep up the courageous fight and the wonderful optimism that I have read in your blog! Optimism is a wonderful gift that will help you through out your whole life! We are here if you need anything! Gina, Creg, and Jacob Jensen

Good Evening Nick, Lori and family
As evident by most of my comments over the weeks - I look to scripture for hope in life stituations. The following bible verse seemed to sum up "Mom's Prescpective" and prayers offered by Ann and others.
"You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among your peoples." Psalm 77:14
Nick, we are surrounded by miracles every day. Every time a child is born, its a miracle. When that child takes its first step or choses to forgive a playmate, its a miracle. Every cancer patient is a miracle. You have survived radiation and chemo theraphy - you are eating, laughing, and riding a motorcycle -prayers are being answered. God does inexplicable and wonderful things every day. So keep your eyes open and chose to believe. Miracles are still God's business. I give thanks that we are the recipients. Love, aunt Chris.

Here's what I want to know,Nick
How do you get far enough on a bike, riding with a tube stuck up your nose, to get into third gear?

Good For YOU!

What's next on your list of "Things I Absolutely Gotta Do?"

Good Morning Mom
Stan and I are off to celebrate Stan's 40 years out of highschool. 43 of us are going on the Carnival Cruise. This morning I woke up reflecting on how much Nick has accomplished just 3 years out of highschool. I give God praise for creating Nick.
When viewing life in reverse, LOVE is what I see. It is by love that I am saved. It is in love I place my hope. Thank you Lori for loving - your "perspective" is the wind beneath Nick's wings. May God's grace cover Nick as he soars. Amen.
Love, aunt Chris
